My computer and bass amp are in separate rooms. So rather than lugging my amp into the other room, I've been looking for a way to play my bass through my computer (which is a desktop, and not easy to move into the room where my amp is either). This UR22 interface fits the bill quite nicely. I tried VOX Amplug for my bass and it worked okay, but couldn't get a good amount of volume. Plus I have my bass in one ear (half a headphone in one ear), and the computer through my PC speakers (so I can hear out of my other ear), which is okay but having everything through my headphones using the UR22 is much better.
Again, I'm not into recording music using the software Cubase that came along with the UR22; HOWEVER, I'm so excited about how well this is working, it might very well encourage me to dabble into recording. Of course that will require me to climb the awfully high learning curve to learn how to use Cubase (I feel intermediate level at using audio software like Magix, but this recording through an interface is new to me).
So I'm very happy with the purchase (on sale $120). All I do is turn on the UR22, plug in my headphones (I have no active monitors), plug my bass guitar into input #2 and start playing (don't even need Cubase or Audacity for that - which I was not aware...thought you needed the software play your guitar even without necessarily recording...wrong, just "plug and play").
ARTA release new patches to work with The Steinburg UR-22
The UR22 has been perfect for the month that I've owned it. Not one driver issue, <5ms latency (!!!!), clean uncolored sound, and as an added bonus my monitors (Yamaha HS5's and a Yamaha HS8 sub) are significantly louder. Not sure why but there you go. It's built like a tank, looks fine, and works great.
Anyway... when the switch on my 2i2 for the direct/monitor function failed (roughly 13 months into ownership, which is 1-month after the warranty expired... how do you like that??), I contacted Focusrite to see about getting it repaired. They said it would cost more than just getting a new one. Forget that... so I read a bunch of reviews for something that might be a better option and ended up with the Steinberg UR22.
So far I am VERY pleased. No issues with the driver - Mac OSX Mountain Lion. Everything works as it should. The unit is well made and robustly constructed - the controls knobs are definitely a step-up in quality from the Focusrite Scarlett and the overall impression is that the UR22 is a very high quality piece of pro gear. The pre-amps have a much better gain structure so no more issues with overload. I can easily find a great signal level with my Sadowsky or anything else I throw at it, and finally... I can use the full volume potential of my monitors. Nice! Regarding the preamp quality, I'd say they are a bit cleaner than the Scarlett 2i2. Not sterile in any way, just more transparent with a bit less color to the sound. I like them very much so far. Have used them to track bass, guitars, acoustic guitars with mics, etc. What you put in is what you get out, with just a touch of warmth and body. They do not color the signal as much as the 2i2 and I think I am going to appreciate that quite a bit. The overall feeling is that this unit is a step up from the Scarlett 2i2. When you factor in the included MIDI in/out on the Steinberg, it sweetens the deal completely.
So... I am quite happy so far with the UR22. Great I/O box. Very nice sounding preamps and a level of clarity that appears to surpass the competition.

- The output for the phone is not working properly, it is loose in is socket and it glitch when you touch it.
However the product is doing what is supposed to do, I can't compare because it's my first audio interface.
I was hoping better from steinberg.
